ABOUT THE ARTIST  " PAUL CARDEW "
    PAUL CARDEW MASTER TEAPOT MAKER
Over the last fifteen years Paul Cardew has established himself its the world's Preeminent designer and producer of such collectable teapots. His fertile imagination and exceptional modelling skills have created an enormous catalogue of wonderful designs that have become the centerpiece of collections around the world.
His talents have also been widely recognized by museums art galleries and the British Tea Council for whom he designed a special range of teapots in the late 80's.
His obsession with producing ever more imaginative and intricate designs has remarkably not sent him "potty". His youthfulness and energy bear witness to the naturally reviving qualities of tea!
    HANDMADE IN VICTORIAN SPLENDOR
All Cardew teapots are handcrafted using exactly the same skills and techniques deployed by Josiah Wedgwood all those centuries ago.
Cardew pottery complements these time-honored practices, a converted 19th century farmhouse complex, set in deepest rural Devon near the historic city of Exeter.
Starting with the sculpting of fine details, then to three individual kiln firings, hand painting, and through to the final flourish of Paul Cardew's signature and a unique identification number on the base of each teapot our highly skilled workforce take eight painstaking days to complete each pot.
Many pieces are decorated with precious metal including 18ct gold and silver.
Our decorative teapots are obviously ill-suited for everyday use and therefore should not be used in microwaves or dishwashers
. In order to clean your teapot Wash its exterior gently with lukewarm water.
Look after our teapots and they will appreciate in value and indeed be appreciated by generations to come
Paul Cardew had been designing ceramics for many years including the now very collectable range of National Westminster Piggy Banks which were given away with savings accounts in the UK in the 1970s
.Paul Cardew first launched a range of teapots in 1975 at Spring Fair trade show in Birmingham. Many of Paul’s early teapots were produced by his company Sunshine Ceramics including one of his rarest and most poular The Cactus
His work was first shown in the USA in 1992 at the New York Gift Show and his designs had an instant appeal to the North American marketplace.
During the 90’s Paul Cardew designed for a number of famous brands under license- Portmeirion, Royal Doulton, Lilliput Lane, Harmony Kingdom- to name but a few. But his greatest claim was an association with The Walt Disney Company, with over one hundred designs perfected during a six year period…launching Paul on to the world’s stage.
oy Disney selected Paul Cardew as one of only a few artists worldwide to design special products for Disney’s Millennium reproduction of the Fantasia Cartoon. Paul was invited to attend the movies premier at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
Cardew Design teapots were some of the most popular collectables of the 1990s and the early 2000s. There was a popular Cardew Collectors Club which was established in 1993 and ran for about eight years.

In 1999 Cardew Design North America Inc. was formed to expand and increase business primarily in the US and Canada. Since then, Paul’s designs have now sold in over 50 countries, delighting people all over the world. Many of his old designs are now antiques and are featured in auctions wherever ceramic art and teapots turn up.
In February 2008 Cardew Design North America acquired the international rights to the Cardew name and trade marks.Today Paul Cardew continues to create even more interesting designs appealing to the ever changing tastes of the discerning consumer.
