METALLICA -
commonly known as “The Black Album,”
is the fifth studio album by this American heavy metal band.
It wasn’t an easy production.
The band had a new producer – Bob Rock.
The band members did not get along with him at all,
but in the end,
METALLICA's "Black Album"
became a “monster.”
It debuted at NUMBER ONE in TEN countries and remained on BILLBOARD’s top album charts for 363 weeks.
It was certified and re-certified until its last certification which minted this award at 16-million units sold in 2012.
This milestone certification by RIAA will  be the final certification for METALLICA

THIS SAME AWARD (VERY SAME MADE BY MR. KITTINGER)  AUCTIONED FOR 7 RECENTLY IN AMSTERDAM AT CATAWIKI AUCTION.
THIS IS NOT AN OFFICIAL "RIAA SALES AWARD."  It is an in-house award from "Vertigo"  records made for radio stations,  DJ's,  Music Executives and other VIP's to show Vertigo's appreciation for airplay and promotional value which contributed to sales.  The official RIAA Sales Award were dedicated to specific individuals and plates were inscribed to those individuals by name on the awards.
This award was one of the last designed and created by Ken Kittinger who spent nearly five decades on Nashville’s famed Music Row and was heralded in the music industry as the “premier gold & platinum award maker.”
Mr. Kittinger became ill and passed at age 91 in 2016 but remained active in the music business until the day he died.
His awards hang on the walls of the most well-known celebrities throughout the world.

THIS AWARD IS EXTREMELY UNIQUE IN THAT THE LABELS WERE PRINTED ON METALLIC MATERIAL AND THE BOTTOM MATTING IS BLACK VELVET.  THE BACKGROUND IS GOLD lamé  TO COMPLEMENT THE "METALLIC"  THEME OF
METALLICA.
THE "VERTIGO" LABEL IS RARE AND FEWER THAN NORMAL WERE ORDERED BECAUSE METALLICA HAD ALREADY BEEN CERTIFIED TWICE PRIOR TO ITS 2012 FINAL CERTIFICATION BY RIAA FOR 16-MILLION UNITS SOLD.   THIS WILL BE ITS LAST RIAA CERTIFICATION AND THE LAST PLATINUM AWARD FOR ONE OF THE GREATEST ALBUMS EVER CUT.    RARE - NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND,  AND COMMANDING MUCH MORE MONEY IN EUROPEAN AUCTION HISTORY.
